Hamlets Become Villages

Abstract: Generally Iroquoians moved their villages every 12 to 20 years 
when the soil and local resources, particularly firewood, were exhausted. 
This paper will examine one method by which new village sites were selected.
Archaeological evidence in the St. Lawrence Iroquoian context will be 
presented to demonstrate this option.
