Small Sites of the Princess Point Complex David G. Smith, Trevor Ormerod and AndrČ Bekerman Erindale College, University of Toronto Mississauga, Ontario Abstract: Recent investigations of site clusters of the Princess Point Complex, the earliest manifestation of the Ontario Iroquois tradition, have turned up a number of small sites clustered near the type-site at Princess Point. Several of these small sites have been identified in ravines very close to the water's edge at Cootes Paradise on the ground of the Royal Botanical Gardens outside Hamilton. One such site was partially excavated in August 1995. Full investigation of the settlement pattern evidence at that site will be completed in the upcoming field season. Further survey of the area and excavation of one or more additional small sites will also be undertaken. This presentation will report on our findings and interpretation of the purpose and significance of these small sites for the Princess Point.
